Admission requirements for PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) programs are different for different universities, but all applicants must meet certain requirements that are common for all.

Basic Eligibility

Master's in a related subject with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories).

Some of these universities also offer Integrated PhD programs after Graduation (B.Sc., B.Tech, etc.).

Admission Tests

All of these institutes require that candidates be exempt from national or university-level entrance exams such as:

GATE

University-specific PhD entrance exam

Research Proposal

It is necessary that candidates prepare a statement of purpose (SOP) or a research proposal of their proposed area of study, objectives, and methodology.

Interview / Viva

After passing the entrance exam, a candidate is normally invited for a personal interview or viva to test their research aptitude, subject matter knowledge, and clear conceptual thinking.

Additional Requirements

Certain universities demand publications or research work in advance.

Working professionals may need to get an NOC (No Objection Certificate) from their organization.
